The Bruised Romantic Glee Club

January 8th 2008

Spot Jakko in this rogues gallery. Its the (devishly-handsome) Tangent, posing for the new album 'Not as good as the book'. The book in question being a short sc-fi novel by band frontman Andy Tillison. There's an impressive Flashy website that is (presumably) also 'Not as good as the book'. Well worth a visit, nonethless.

January 7th 2008

Happy New Year from Jakko, Amanda and the family. Jakko has written a festive bumper double edition of his blog, which explains what he has been doing in the past few months. Recording with the Tangent and moving house being two of the big items on the list. There is sad news, too, for fans of the Bruised Romantic Glee Club. Please feel able to comment on any or all of the blog items if you wish.

The Tangent website is featuring a track from the new album and the artwork.

August 24th 2007

Jakko's powerful song 'Forgiving', featuring a soundscape by Robert Fripp, is the current 'hot tickle' for free download on the DGM Live site.

August 20th 2007

Here is a video of Jakko and Mel performing 'the Letters' live in Venice. There are some authorities on King Crimson that say that the song has never sounded better than on this version. Do you agree? Leave a comment on our guestbook and tell us.

August 16th 2007

Fancy a little 'Starless' on this late August day? Well, the clip below is from Jakko's performance in Venice with Mel Collins. We will be posting more of the show soon, including an amazing version of 'the Letters'.

July 26th 2007

Jakko has posted a bumper catch-up blog. And what an interesting blog it is for those keen to find out about the inner workings of certain prog groups and the manic state of the UK property market!

July 5th 2007

Jakko has agreed to play guitar on the next album by the Tangent, which will be released in early 2008. Jakko joins Theo Travis (Sax) and Andy Tillison (Hammond & Moog) in the Tangent to fill a space formerly occupied by Roine Stolt and Krister Jonsson.

This is a glimpse of a trailer for the current album by the Tangent.

Jakko features in a book called 50 guitarists written by Konig. There is a link to Amazon, but I will see if I can find a better review of it.

April 23rd 2007

Meet Jakko at the London guitar show, where Jakko and Robert Fripp's signature guitars will both be launched. Jakko will be playing on the Crimson guitar stand for all 3 days of the event and selling and signing copies of his solo album too.

April 22nd 2007

The last few weeks have been difficult days for Jakko. Read his latest blog, here.

March 10th 2007

It is easy to post comments on forums and we can forget that our words can have powerful effects that we cannot forsee. Jakko's powerful blog today makes sad and dispriting reading, but definitely gives us something to think about.

February 24th 2007

It is with great affection that we remember Ian Wallace who died recently. Ian's contribution to King Crimson and the Schizoid Band is celebrated on the Schizoid Band site, where you can download 'Ladies of the Road' from the Live in NY album.

Jakko's personal tribute to Ian can be found on his blog.

January 28th 2007

We launch a new reviews feature today. Jakko's Bruised Romantic Glee Club has been getting outstanding reviews in both print and internet media. We will present a selection on a special reviews page.

If you would like to review the album for yourself, then please post it on the guestbook.

January 6th 2007

Happy New Year from the webteam and we hope to bring you much exciting JJ news in the first quarter of the new year. Jakko publishes a Christmas and New Year blog, here.

December 31st 2006

Fans of the UK comedy duo 'French and Saunders' will have had a real treat over Christmas as their 'Jam and Jerusalem' and 'Vicar of Dibley' shows got top viewing figures.

Avid readers of Jakko's other website will know that Jakko used to work with a comedy group called 'Raw Sex' and appeared as Lindsey Buckingham in a send up of Fleetwood Mac. Well, the video has surfaced on Youtube and you can enjoy it by clicking here. Think of it as a New Year's treat!

ProgLog AFTERglow

Dear Mr Jakszyk,

Your new album ‘The Bruised Romantic Glee Club’ has become ‘Album of the Week’ on ProgLog AFTERglow. The ‘Album of the Week’ is published on AFTERglow together with a short-cut-review. Although it is written in Dutch, I can assure you that the conclusion is ‘excellent’.

In general ProgLog AFTERglow is a site which aims at opinions, background information, ‘memory lanes’, written articles and reviews about bands and artists in the progressive rock genre. There is a dBase parallel linked to the main site with a lot of reviews about progressive albums. The site is runned by progressive rock fans and progmusicians and is recommended by other organisations and progsites as mentioned in our ‘link list’.

You can find us at:

If you have not yet heard the first Jakko podcast on Krimson News, then trundle over there straight away, because you will be in for a real treat.

Featuring Jakko, Sid Smith, Ian Wallace, Jeff Duke and Steve Turnidge, the podcast explores how Jakko started to play music and how the Schizoid Band came into being.

There is also excellent piece of unreleased music from 1981 called Ingmar Bergman on The Window Sill. It features: Jakko, Dave Stewart, (National Health), on Keyboards, Dave Jackson, (Van Der Graaf) on Saxes, Annie Whitehead on Trombones, Amanda Parsons, (Northettes and National Health), on Vocals, and John Clarke on Drums.

This is part one of the podcast. Part two is released next week.

December 20th 2006

Its been a while since we posted; thank you for your patience and forbearance. There have been lots of things happening to Jakko, and his recent blog tells all about it. Lots of manic activity in TV advert land, layered on top of preparations for the Venice show with Mel.

The show sounds like it was great success, and possibly a beginning of a new way of working for Jakko and Mel. Here are some photographs:

Sid Smith has reviewed the show on his blog, which included a version of 'the Letters', from the King Crimson Islands album.

The new album is getting some very good reviews in the print press and on internet sites. The 'official' launch of the album is likely to be in February, and there will be some magazine features and other publicity due in the New Year. There is even talk of a possible live show.

So, all in all, a good end to the year. Seasons greetings to you all from Jakko, Amanda, Django, Amber and from all of us at the website.

October 31st 2006

October 3rd 2006

Jakko has updated his blog with moving account of Pip's funeral and more insights into the creative world of TV advertisements. I am testing a dummy club index page, and I hope the Glee Club will be up and running very soon.

October 1st 2006

At last copies of the new Double CD are available for pre-order from Burning Shed. Whilst their site says the release date is 16th October, we are hoping to have copies available before then.

The CD will eventually be available via shops and other sites, however for the first couple of months the album is exclusively available from this site, via Burning Shed. Thanks for waiting. Please click the above link which will take you straight there.

The Bruised Romantic Glee Club is a stunning and beautifully packaged 2CD set containing one disc of powerfully haunting original songs and another comprising unlikely cover versions Featuring sophisticated production values and inspired guest performances from a stellar cast that includes Robert Fripp, Mel Collins, Danny Thompson, Gavin Harrison, Dave Stewart, Hugh Hopper and many others.

September 29th 2006

More Jakko blog today; bittersweet as ever with the funeral of Pip and fond memories of the early days of Stiff and meeting Amanda. The album release is very close now. 'Stand by for action!'

September 10th 2006

If you thought it has been a bit quiet round here in the last week, then its been because the main man has been 'twisting by the pool' at Mel Colllin's place in Spain. Holiday blog and pics are here. Now, back to the serious stuff. When's the album coming out?

September 10th 2006

We have posted the ninth of Jakko's interviews today. This one is about a delightful instrumental called 'The things we throw away'. Listen to it here.

I am hopeful that this will be the week when copies of the album appear. There was a slight delay on the cover artwork which slowed things down by about ten days, but hopefully we should be over that now.

September 2nd 2006

Jakko's latest blog is posted today. The pressure is on as he tries to finish an advert for a client.

'Doxy' is one of Jakko's most enigmatic songs, and also one of the most beautiful, featuring Danny Thompson's bass playing. Find out more in the Jakko interview.

August 18th 2006

Jakko has updated his blog, battles with passport bureaucracy and unveils a photo of his lovely daughter Amber. He also tells good stories with Neil Mullarky, Jim Sweeny and Tony Hawks.

A new interview appears continuing the discussion of the role of Dave Stewart in the album, especially on the reworking of Soft Machine's 'As long as he lies perfectly still'.

Jakko has posted more blog, including an amusing evening spent celebrating Stiff records. At last, the truth can be told!

August 2nd 2006

Jakko has posted an extensive blog about recent days in West London during a heatwave. Funny, exasperating, touching and very moving.

Jakko and I spoke yesterday about plans for this site. Early copies of the album are probably about 3 weeks away (assuming no delays) and are likely to be available from Burning Shed. More news as I get it. Hopefully, the first 500 or so will be signed copies.

We hope to create a 'members-only' section of the site which can be accessed through a free-on line registration. So, now we can all join the glee club!! The members site will have additional content, alternative mixes, unreleased versions and the like.

June 7th 2006

It's on its way! Jakko finished mastering the album two weeks ago, has tweaked the artwork package, written his 'thank-yous' and everything has gone off to the factory. It will be for sale in a few weeks time. Not long to wait now.

In the mean time we launch a new feature. Jakko has recorded a series of interviews with Sid Smith. These are available as streaming Flash files or separately as small mp3s for downloading. The interviews can be found here.
